What Lawn Care Actually Does

Mowing keeps a lawn tidy. Lawn care is what builds a better one. Don's Lawn & Land Care provides professional lawn care services across St. Catharines and Niagara β€” core aeration, dethatching, overseeding, liquid and granular fertilizing, topdressing, and organic soil conditioning. Each treatment targets a specific limitation holding the lawn back, rather than applying the same generic program to every property.

Why Our Approach Works

The approach is biological, not chemical. Grub control uses nematodes β€” a natural predator β€” rather than harsh pesticides. Soil conditioners work at the root level to improve structure, root depth, and water retention β€” building turf that handles the late-summer drought stress Niagara lawns face every August. Fertilizer treatments use FoliarTech professional-grade products exclusively, and overseeding is done with Canadian Blue Tag certified seed varieties selected specifically for drought tolerance. Each annual application progressively shifts the lawn toward a denser, more resilient turf that stays green and holds up longer through dry season.

Fall is the Right Window in Niagara

Timing is everything in lawn care, and Niagara has specific windows that matter. Core aeration is done in fall β€” late August through October β€” when cool-season grass is in its second active growth phase and recovers quickly before dormancy. Clay-heavy soil and wet Niagara springs make fall the only window where aeration performs properly. Most lawns in the region are aerated in spring and see limited results because of it.

Grubs Are a Niagara Problem

White grubs are the larvae of Japanese Beetles and European Chafers β€” two beetles that thrive in this region. They feed on grass roots just below the surface through late summer and fall, killing turf from the ground up before the damage is even visible. By the time brown patches appear or wildlife starts digging up the lawn overnight, the infestation is already well established. Treatment works best early, before the damage compounds season over season.

White grub damage is one of the most common and frustrating lawn problems in Niagara. If you're noticing brown patches that don't respond to watering, turf that peels back from the soil, or wildlife digging up your lawn overnight β€” grubs are likely the cause. We treat grub infestations naturally using beneficial nematodes β€” completely safe for people, pets, pollinators, and plants. Dealing with existing grub damage and lawn restoration? Seasonal Lawn Care Programs & Pricing

Two programs, both using FoliarTech professional-grade products and Canadian Blue Tag certified seed. The Fertilizer Program runs April through October with 6 scheduled visits covering granular and liquid applications timed to the growing season. The Seasonal Packages combine mechanical services β€” dethatching, aeration, overseeding β€” with fertilizer treatments timed to spring, summer, and fall.

A 5-visit annual program β€” Spring Forward in late April, three High Noon liquid treatments in late June, early August, and early September, and Fall Back in October. All prices are prepaid annually. Prefer to book visit by visit? Γ€ la carte pricing is available for each service individually.

Spring Forward

Spring1 visit

Late April / Early May

$299
Power raking (dethatching or scarifying, depending on thatch depth and lawn condition) to remove built-up debris β€” improving airflow, water penetration, and nutrient absorption for a thicker, healthier, greener lawn with reduced disease and pest pressure
Slow-release granular fertilizer to promote steady, consistent growth over several weeks β€” avoiding excessive surge growth while building long-term turf health
Granular humic and fulvic acid treatment to stimulate soil biology, improve soil structure, enhance root development, and maximize nutrient availability

High Noon

Summer3 visits

Early July, Early August & Early September

$66

per visit

Applied three times through the heat of summer β€” early July, early August, and early September. Each visit includes liquid NPK fertilizer with iron and liquid humic and fulvic acid treatment to maintain colour, build stress resistance, and support the lawn through peak heat and into fall recovery.

Fall Back

Fall1 visit

October

$399
Core aeration to relieve soil compaction, improve oxygen and water movement, and create ideal conditions for root development
Slow-release granular fertilizer applied to build root reserves and harden the turf heading into winter
Granular humic and fulvic acid treatment to stimulate soil biology and maximize nutrient availability
Overseeding with Alpha Centauri Elite perennial ryegrass β€” one of the most drought tolerant grass species available. Applied immediately following aeration while cores are open for maximum seed-to-soil contact. Each annual application progressively shifts your lawn toward a tougher, greener, more resilient turf that holds its colour longer into the dry season
