What Lawn Care Actually Does
Mowing keeps a lawn tidy. Lawn care is what builds a better one. Don's Lawn & Land Care provides professional lawn care services across St. Catharines and Niagara β core aeration, dethatching, overseeding, liquid and granular fertilizing, topdressing, and organic soil conditioning. Each treatment targets a specific limitation holding the lawn back, rather than applying the same generic program to every property.
Why Our Approach Works
The approach is biological, not chemical. Grub control uses nematodes β a natural predator β rather than harsh pesticides. Soil conditioners work at the root level to improve structure, root depth, and water retention β building turf that handles the late-summer drought stress Niagara lawns face every August. Fertilizer treatments use FoliarTech professional-grade products exclusively, and overseeding is done with Canadian Blue Tag certified seed varieties selected specifically for drought tolerance. Each annual application progressively shifts the lawn toward a denser, more resilient turf that stays green and holds up longer through dry season.
Fall is the Right Window in Niagara
Timing is everything in lawn care, and Niagara has specific windows that matter. Core aeration is done in fall β late August through October β when cool-season grass is in its second active growth phase and recovers quickly before dormancy. Clay-heavy soil and wet Niagara springs make fall the only window where aeration performs properly. Most lawns in the region are aerated in spring and see limited results because of it.
Grubs Are a Niagara Problem
White grubs are the larvae of Japanese Beetles and European Chafers β two beetles that thrive in this region. They feed on grass roots just below the surface through late summer and fall, killing turf from the ground up before the damage is even visible. By the time brown patches appear or wildlife starts digging up the lawn overnight, the infestation is already well established. Treatment works best early, before the damage compounds season over season.
White grub damage is one of the most common and frustrating lawn problems in Niagara. If you're noticing brown patches that don't respond to watering, turf that peels back from the soil, or wildlife digging up your lawn overnight β grubs are likely the cause. We treat grub infestations naturally using beneficial nematodes β completely safe for people, pets, pollinators, and plants. Dealing with existing grub damage and lawn restoration?
